Correct dog behaviour

Dear Dog Lovers‘!

You and your dog are well welcomed in Val Gardena. To ensure you have a fun holiday in Val Gardena with your dog, we have created this guide which includes many tips, suggestions and a wealth of information on how to spend the perfect holiday with your dog in a coveted tourist destination. The Dolomites benefit from a very special protection thanks to their status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. That is why, if you’re taking your canine friend on holiday with you, you need to remember a couple of things.

  1. Under the passenger's responsibility, animals are allowed to travel on public transport (bus and train) as long as space is available and safety is guaranteed. Pets may be accepted for carriage after payment of the fare for the single journey. The passenger must take all precautions and carry the necessary accessories to avoid damage or disturbance to passengers. Dogs must be kept on a leash and may not occupy seats. With the exception of small breed dogs, they will only be carried with a muzzle. Guide dogs will also be carried without a muzzle, unless the use of a muzzle is expressly requested by passengers or the driver of the vehicle. Guide dogs and small animals held in the arms or in a cage or container with dimensions not exceeding 70x30x50 cm are carried free of charge.
  2. Dogs may travel on cable cars and chairlifts (on payment) in Val Gardena, but must be kept on a leash, may not occupy seats and must wear a muzzle. Guide dogs are also carried without a muzzle, unless the wearing of a muzzle is expressly requested by other passengers or by the lift operator. Guide dogs are carried free of charge.
  3. Don’t leave your pet unsupervised in your accommodation meanwhile you spend your holiday in Val Gardena.
  4. Keep a safe distance from the herds, should your dog set upon a cow or similar, let go of the leash and get to safety.
  5. Every dog owner must be equipped with special plastic bags and water bottle/flask for removing the animal's droppings and cleaning up urine (especially in village centres). We’ve set up several dog cleaning stations for our four-legged friends in Val Gardena. Here you can find the aforementioned plastic bags. Please ensure that you clean up after your dog as soon as possible.
  6. Dogs are not allowed to go into the areas reserved for children. These areas are marked with special signs.
  7. Please ensure that he or she is on a leash at all times which is provided on all public or publicly accessible areas. The leash of middle or big dogs can’t be longer than one meter a half.
  8. Private properties should not be accessed, nor should they be used as dog toilets.
  9. All dogs need to be registered at the registery office.

Plan your trips also respecting the physical conditions of your dog.
