Besides the language, the traditions and the traditional costumes, Ladin culture would not be complete without mentioning the cuisine of its valleys. The Ladin cuisine has been influenced by new tendencies and, over time, their presence has complemented the traditional flavours and tastes.
Our grandparents ate in a very simple way, probably due to the poor variety in food or because of the easy and simple preparation of dishes.
The following recipes are only a small selection of our dishes and are quite easy to make:
Crafuncins (Spinach ravioli)
Jufa (Mousse)
Tëurta de furmenton (Buckwheat cake)
Panicia (Barley soup)
Bales de furmenton (Buckwheat dumplings- Knodel)
Grosti da patac (Grosti)
Fanziëutes da mëiles (Small apple piestarter)
Crafons da pavè (Poppy seed buns)
Tutres (Spinach Flan)
Puessl (Apple-Tart)
During summer, the Tourist Associations in Val Gardena organise several cooking classes focussing on the preparation of typical dishes from Val Gardena.
