There is a large marmot population in the area at the foot of the Plattkofel. This is why this tour is often called "Marmot walk". With a bit of luck you might even come a cross one of those animals on this trail.

Author’s recommendation

A special characteristic of the marmot is its whistle, which has the function of warning its companions from danger. One time this animals whistled even at the encounter with people, however nowadays most of them are confiding in us.
Nevertheless, keep a sufficient distance from the animals and remain calm in their presence.

Turn-by-turn directions

From Monte Pana a path n.30, crossing meadows and woods, leads to Saltria.After it continues the path n.9 until arriving at the Tirler hut, from there you continue up to the Zallinger Hut. From there you continue along the path n.531 until arriving at the Murmeltier hut. The descent continues at the foot of the Sasso Piatto Peak take we to “Piza da Uridl”. The you continue up to the “Plan de Cunfin” and finally we get to the start point.

Public transport

Bus to the bus stop S. Cristina Municipio/Rathaus , then ascent with the Monte Pana chairlift or by foot via hiking trail no. 30 (approx. 45 min).

Directions

The hike starts from Monte Pana in S. Crisitina, which you can reach by taking the chairlift Monte Pana from the centre of S. Cristina (free car park at the valley station).
 You can reach Monte Pana also by private car (chargeable car park) or by foot (approx. 40 min and 200 m of elevation).

Parking

Car park at the starting point: Monte Pana P1 & P2 (chargeable).
Alternative: Bus or car to the valley station of the Monte Pana lift and ascent with the lift.
