Discover – be amazed – experience: Val Gardena Kids Active 2017

Activities in the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site for the youngest guests in Val Gardena

It’s time for pure excitement during this summer 2017 for children between 6 and 12. The children taking part in the ‘Val Gardena Kids Active’ animation programme running from June to September (13.06. – 08.09.2017) will learn all there is to learn about the Dolomites, a treasure trove bursting with adventure and small natural works of art. On four days a week, namely Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, children can dive into a world packed with incredible experiences! How’s honey made? Who was Oswald von Wolkenstein? Why are the Dolomites called the ‘pale mountains’? Children never stop asking questions as it is and the Active weeks will provide them with all the answers in the guise of fun and sporty guides accompanying them throughout the day. Bring on the summer!

Tuesday | Hard-working bees and expert bikers:
Kids active using their wits

Children love honey: it’s sweet yet still healthy. How does the honey get into a jar in the first place, anyway? Together with our guide Marion the children will visit a bee-keeper in Ortisei who will talk about the profession and the importance of honey bees. The children will also get to see how a bee-keeper works, behind the protection of a glass panel, of course. After a lunch break and games on a meadow, the next stop will be the Bike Park Palmer where the kids, after having tanked up on energy, can prove their mountain bike skills!

Wednesday | Castle ruins and mountains:
Kids active and nature
Castel Wolkenstein was built at the start of the 13th century and it can still be seen to this very day as a ruin in Vallunga near Selva Val Gardena. Here the children can bake bread on a campfire as the knights would have done back in the day, and learn more about Minnesinger Oswald von Wolkenstein, who supposedly spent a great amount of time here during the summer. In the afternoon, we’ll head upwards and onwards as the children try their hand at a climbing taster session under the guidance of the ‘Gardena Guides’ mountain guides. A first-hand experience with the rocky mountain walls!

Thursday | Treasure troves and fishing:
Kids active on a treasure trail
Geocaching is today’s treasure hunt, uniting games, fun, and romping around. On the ‘PanaRaida’ adventure and thematic trail on Monte Pana near S. Cristina, the children will receive the task to find three caches. Upon finding them, they’ll receive a small reward. In the afternoon, our explorers will enter the animal kingdom: everyone can give angling a try and see if they catch any fish.

Friday | Petting zoo and geological peculiarities:
Kids active exploring the Dolomites with all their senses
The trip on the gondola cable car to the Col Raiser above S. Cristina promises an exciting day: the amazing view across the surrounding mountain world is something out of a dream and will light up the spark in the children’s eyes. During a leisurely walk, nature can be observed with all their senses. At the Nëidia hut, small animals can be petted to their heart’s content. On the way back, young nature detectives can go and hunt for magical stones and pebbles and, maybe, take some of their finds back home.

And if it rains?
Climbing hall, game day, kids cinema and much more...
