Ortisei

Ortisei became famous for its artistic woodcarvings, which have been made here by finger-skilled carving families for generations. At the same time, Val Gardena's arts and crafts still ensure a continuing boom in woodcarving art, which has far more to offer than the world-famous nativity figures. Traditional hotels and smart residential houses from the turn of the century define the townscape of Ortisei. Tourism has been the town's most important industry since the 19th century. The pedestrian zone in Ortisei, which connects the parish church of St. Ulrich with the church of St. Anthony, is described as the most beautiful shopping street in the Dolomites.
