Coming from the west, Ortisei is located at the beginning of Val Gardena and is surrounded by numerous mountains, making it the ideal starting point for hikes and excursions in the Dolomites. The Seceda, the Pitschberg, the Alpe di Siusi and the Rasciesa ridge are just some of the imposing heights that define Ortisei's magnificent panorama.

Ortisei became famous for its artistic woodcarvings, which have been made here by finger-skilled carving families for generations. At the same time, Val Gardena's arts and crafts still ensure a continuing boom in woodcarving art, which has far more to offer than the world-famous nativity figures. Traditional hotels and smart residential houses from the turn of the century define the townscape of Ortisei. Tourism has been the town's most important industry since the 19th century.
