Tips for a sustainable holiday in Val Gardena

  • Be mobile in Val Gardena
Use the free transport Val Gardena Guest Pass on local buses. You can leave your car parked at the hotel.

  • Drink mountain water and avoid plastic
With Ega dla Dolomites you can safely drink tap water in the Dolomites. Our excellent, clean, crystal-clear water is examined every month by the Eco Center South Tyrol to assess its quality. Say no to plastic bottles and help us preserve and protect nature and our beautiful landscapes!

  • Waste separation
We believe in recycling and waste sorting. So join in, make the world a greener place, and do not create any unnecessary waste.

  • Air conditioning? Not needed!
Even on the hottest days, nights in the mountains are always cool, meaning you can enjoy a good night’s sleep. This is why the rooms don’t have air conditioning.

  • Stay longer and dive deeper
Staying longer in a holiday destination not only brings a more intense holiday experience and more relaxation, but also results in a considerable saving of emissions, as arrival and departure traffic is reduced. A longer holiday at a stretch is therefore more climate-friendly than several short trips.

  • Environmentally friendly travel
Travelling to and from the resort by plane and car has the greatest impact on the climate balance. Val Gardena is served by public transport or offers free buses on site. In addition, the numerous lifts (in winter with the ski pass, in summer with the Gardena Card or Dolomiti SuperSummer Card) offer every possibility to reach the day's destination in an environmentally friendly way.

  • Respect the mountains
The project "Respect the mountains" aims to sensitise guests, locals and tourism professionals in the area of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site to environmentally friendly behaviour and to create awareness for respectful and responsible behaviour on the mountain but also in everyday life. The main topics are drinking water and waste avoidance.

Take care of the things you like…Out and about in the Val Gardena Dolomites

  • Please stick to the signposted paths and skipists in winter. This will safeguard the local flora and fauna.
  • Give your car a break too. Use public transport thanks to the Val Gardena Mobil Card; take the numerous lifts; or explore the area by bike or on foot.
  • "What goes up must come down." Do not litter. Take your waste back down to the valley and dispose of it there.
  • Do not leave paper tissues in nature (it takes three to five years for the tissues to degrade).
  • Respect whoever you meet in the mountains. Bikers, hikers or climbers... everyone is equally welcome in Val Gardena.
  • Read signs carefully. For your own protection.
  • Please keep your dog on a leash at all times, especially in the mountains. When using public transport or lifts, dogs should also be muzzled. Always clean up after your dogs with the appropriate bags, which should be disposed of in the appropriate bins and never thrown onto the meadows.
  • Always carefully close pasture fences or gates behind you.
  • Collect "souvenirs" wisely. Waste left by other hikers can always be collected!
  • Always check the local weather forecast before and during a hike and skitour. You do not want to be surprised by a thunderstorm in the middle of the mountains, far away from proper shelter like a mountain hut.
  • Mountain rescue ensures that people, who find themselves in an alpine emergency, are rescued. Be aware! All our first aiders are volunteers. The emergency call should therefore only be dialled in urgent cases.
  • Enjoy the regional products "Made with love in Val Gardena".
