HERO Südtirol Dolomites: 11.06. - 14.06.2026

The HERO Südtirol Dolomites in Selva Val Gardena stands out as one of the most challenging mountain bike events for both amateur and professional cyclists. The competition is spectacular, providing an excellent opportunity for international professional athletes and ambitious amateur cyclists to come together, all sharing the common dream of racing and conquering one of the three demanding distances.

Indeed, participants can choose from three distances that wind around the Passo Sella and Sassolungo:

  • The classic distance covers 60 km with an elevation gain of 3,200 m.
  • The middle distance spans 71 km, featuring an elevation difference of 4,100 meters.
  • The marathon distance extends over 86 km, with a total elevation gain of 4,500 m.

The route: uniquely beautiful and incredibly hard

Selva Val Gardena represents both the start and the end of the HERO Dolomites. The location is a beloved holiday destination in Val Gardena. The three races will take participants around the Passo Sella at the feet of the legendary skiing carousel, the Sellaronda. Participants need to demonstrate unwavering commitment to the race, as adequate preparation is crucial due to the challenging length and significant elevation gain. The same level of determination is necessary to conquer the extraordinary distances and push beyond personal limitations.

The HERO wins the UCI Climate Action Award

Since 2021, the HERO Südtirol Dolomites organising committee has been dedicated to minimising the event's environmental footprint through the HERO TO ZERO project. These efforts were recognised in 2024 when the HERO received the prestigious UCI Climate Action Award, presented by the International Cycling Union (Video). This accolade is part of the inaugural UCI Cycling for All & Sustainability Awards, celebrating outstanding environmental and social initiatives in the world of cycling.

With this achievement, the HERO Südtirol Dolomites stands as a beacon of sustainability in sports, highlighting the critical role of ecological responsibility in large-scale events.
