11 athletes from Val Gardena are in PyeongChang 2018

The elected host city for the Winter Olympic Games 2018 is PyeonChang, in South Korea, and 11 of the 121 athletes from the Italian national team, qualified, are from Val Gardena – a valley known in the whole world as “the valley of athletes”. Our 11 athletes will compete, together with the other athletes from all around the world, from the 9th to the 25th of February at the Olympic medals.

The 2018 Winter Olympic Games will feature 102 events in 15 sports. In the discipline of alpine skiing, Alex Vinatzer and Nicol Delago will compete. Both athletes are supported by the “DOLOMITES Val Gardena got talent” programme.

  • 5 of the 8 qualified athletes from the Italian national team in the discipline of ski jumping are from the Val Gardena: Alex Insam, Evelyn Insam, Lara Malsiner, Manuela Malsiner and Elena Runggaldier.
  • In Nordic combined our players are Aaron Kostner and Lukas Runggaldier and in Biathlon Alexia Runggaldier.
  • Last but not least, in the discipline of figure skating, there is Carolina Kostner – 3rd place in the last Olympic Games in Sochi – who will strive for more Olympic medals.
