Alpine Ski World Championships 2031 in Val Gardena

The highest-ranking winter sports officials of the FIS have decided: the Alpine Ski World Championships 2031 will be held in Val Gardena again after 61 years.

A common goal in sight: passion, enthusiasm, and motivation. 61 years after the last Alpine Ski World Championships in Val Gardena, the title fights will once again take place in the valley of the woodcarvers. Innovation meets heartblood, passion, and tradition here, in the heart of the Dolomites. This is where skiing is at home. Here, in the three communities of Selva, Santa Cristina, and Ortisei, which lie at the foot of the majestic Langkofel. By organizing World Cup races, they have already gained experience in the past decades - but now, a Ski World Championships is on the horizon.

Originally, only the Ski World Championships 2029 were to be awarded, but the FIS decided to also define the allocation for 2031. Thus, the Alpine Ski World Championships 2029 will be held in Narvik, Norway - for the first time. Two years later, in 2031, the World Championships will then take place in Val Gardena. The fact that this World Championships is already being awarded today was not actually on the plan, but due to the "extraordinarily good applications", the jury decided to make this decision as well.

In the Val Gardena valley, there is not only one of the most successful ski clubs in Italy, but also numerous athletes who have celebrated international successes: such as Isolde Kostner, Carletto Senoner, Peter Runggaldier, Alex Giorgi, Werner Perathoner, and many more. Alex Vinatzer and the sisters Nadia and Nicole Delago also come from Val Gardena, who currently belong to the Italian national team and are stirring up the World Cup. They are the ones who brought and bring the name of Val Gardena and the passion for skiing into the international ski world. In 2031, it should be the other way around, as our up-and-coming athletes will have the opportunity to experience a home World Championships.
