Val Gardena – Italy’s 2022 Best Ski Resort

The World Ski Awards are the equivalent of the Oscars in the world of international skiing. The winners of these awards are among the most interesting and fascinating skiing resorts in the world – which is why we’re happy to announce Dolomites Val Gardena was once again honoured with the title of Italy’s Best Ski Resort.

Tre Cime Dolomites, Cervinia, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Courmayeur Mont Blanc, Madonna di Campiglio, Alpe di Siusi and Sestriere were the other renowned locations which were nominated. Val Gardena was also nominated for the “World’s Best Ski Resort 2022”. However, Italy’s hopes for a potential second award were dashed as the award went again to Verbier in Switzerland. The jury consists of senior executives, tour operators, agencies, and journalists working in the field as well as ski tourism consumers. The award is also determined by the opinion of nearly one million ski enthusiasts from more than 120 countries.

The World Ski Awards were created in 2013 and are the “younger sibling” of the World Travel Awards – which have now reached their 30th edition. The World Ski Awards reward excellence and focus on skiing destinations and winter sport enterprises. After Cortina first won the title of “Italy’s Best Ski Resort”, Val Gardena went on to successfully defend the title from 2014 to this very day.

Christoph Vinatzer, President of DOLOMITES Val Gardena Marketing, is clearly very satisfied. “We’re obviously proud and happy with the award. We’ve defended the title since 2014 – a clear sign that our choices as tourist operators in Val Gardena have been the right ones. A great acknowledgment for everyone working in tourism.”

Sion Rapson, Managing Director, World Ski Awards, says: “Our winners represent the finest brands in global ski tourism and my congratulations to each of them. The 10th annual World Ski Awards programme received a record number of votes from ski consumers across the world, and serves as a barometer on the eve of the upcoming season. This shows that the appetite for ski tourism has never been stronger.”

The Awards feature different categories, including the best ski resorts, best ski hotels, green ski hotels, ski chalets, ski tour operators, ski resort companies, and many more. Unfortunately, the traditional Gala Ceremony held in Kitzbühel, Austria, couldn’t count on the presence of the winners for the second year in a row due to the ongoing pandemic.
